Updated ASP/CSP Preparation Course

This module covers the essential scientific principles and calculation skills required for the ASP/CSP exams. It includes a calculator overview, supported by the ASP/CSP Interactive Equations Book, to ensure fast and accurate problem-solving.

Topics include math review, basic chemistry, electrical principles, mechanics, and hydrostatics and hydraulics, with practical applications such as secondary containment, rigging and load calculations, and storage capacity calculations.

By the end of the module, participants will be confident in handling quantitative and calculation-based ASP/CSP questions.

• Prevention through Design (PtD) and Hierarchy of Controls with proper PPE selection (head, eye, hearing, respiratory, arm/hand).

• Process Safety Management and Fleet Safety Principles.

• Control of Hazardous Energy (LOTO), excavation, trenching, shoring, confined spaces, and electrical safety (NFPA 70E).

• Fall Protection (theoretical and practical PFAS training).

• Machine guarding, powered industrial vehicles, and scaffolding.

• Evaluating facility life safety features and emerging technologies, including drones and data/AI for safety insights.

This module equips participants to apply safety concepts effectively across various industrial scenarios.

This module covers the fundamentals of fire prevention and protection, equipping participants with the knowledge to identify hazards and implement effective safety measures. Key areas include:

• Introduction to fire prevention, including basics and definitions, heat transfer mechanisms, fire classification systems, UEL & LEL, flammable and combustible liquids, housekeeping practices, and extinguishment basics.

• Fire safety during operations, covering hot work, static electricity, and arc flash.

• Fire alarm systems, including system types, initiating devices, heat detectors, smoke detectors, and other types of detectors.

• Standpipe and hose systems.

• Fire pumps and sprinkler systems, including fire pumps, sprinklers, and overall sprinkler system design.

• Other firefighting systems, including fire extinguishers and the safe storage of flammable and combustible liquids.

This module prepares participants to apply fire prevention and protection principles effectively in a variety of workplace settings.

This module focuses on industrial hygiene and ergonomics, equipping participants with the knowledge to identify, evaluate, and control workplace hazards. Key areas include:

• Introduction to industrial hygiene and toxicology, covering dose-response relationships, routes of entry, chemical exposures, and carcinogens.

• Biological hazards, occupational diseases, and target organ toxicology.

• Air sampling techniques, including equipment selection, sampling devices, contaminant forms, sample volume determination, and occupational exposure limits (OELs).

• Ventilation principles, including general and local exhaust ventilation, and radon safety.

• Noise hazards, hearing physiology, measurement, OSHA hearing conservation programs, ototoxicity, and noise-related calculations.

• Thermal stressors, including heat and cold stress, and radiation safety for both ionizing and non-ionizing sources.

• Ergonomics and material handling, practical application of the Revised NIOSH Lifting Equation (RNLE), and assessment tools like REBA and RULA.

• Introduction to Safety Management Systems (SMS) and effective health and safety programs.

• Overview of common safety management systems, management principles, and management theories.

• Management of Change (MoC) processes and Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP).

• Safety auditing to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.

This module equips participants to develop, manage, and evaluate comprehensive safety programs across various workplace settings.

This module focuses on risk management, equipping participants with the knowledge and tools to identify, assess, and control workplace risks. Key areas include:

• Risk management vocabulary (ISO 31073:2022) and introduction to risk management principles.

• Types of risk assessment, financing risks, decision-making, and risk transfer through insurance.

• Hazard and risk analysis methods, including HAZOP, FMEA, FTA, ETA, Energy Trace and Barrier (ETBS) analysis, and the Systematic Cause Analysis Technique (SCAT).

• Accident investigation to identify root causes and prevent recurrence.

This module focuses on legal aspects of workplace safety, particularly those relevant to the ASP exam. Key areas include types of standards, CFR & OSHA regulations, torts, civil and criminal law, and employer/employee rights and responsibilities. It also covers OSHA inspections and citations, workers’ compensation laws, GDPR, contract terminology and management, fatigue management, and the BCSP Code of Ethics.

This module equips participants to understand and apply legal requirements, ethical standards, and regulatory compliance in safety management.
