For certificates issued outside the United States of America, they will be evaluated to determine their equivalent level in the U.S. academic system. Work experience in the field of occupational safety and health
When applying for the ASP Certification exam, you must have completed at least one year of work experience in the field of occupational safety and health. In addition, at least 50% of your job duties must be directly related to the field, which is common in our profession where most specialists work full-time in roles dedicated to this area. Your level of responsibilities and tasks must also be sufficiently specialized and substantial within the field.

Application Process and Exam Fees
You can apply for the ASP exam directly through the BCSP website.
You will create your own account, begin the application process, upload the required documents, and pay the application fee of 160 USD. After your application is approved, you will have a full calendar year to purchase the exam and schedule your preferred date at an authorized testing center.
If the year ends without submitting your exam purchase, you may extend your application period for one additional year for a fee of 100 USD. This extension is available only once and must be completed within the last 60 days of the original eligibility period. The exam fee is 350 USD.

Exam Structure
The exam consists of 200 questions to be completed within 5 hours, and all questions are multiple-choice. Each question has four options, and you must select the most appropriate answer. Some questions may require performing calculations and using formulas; in such cases, the required formula is usually provided along with the question.
The calculator used in the exam
Starting from May 2020, the calculator became integrated into the exam screen, allowing you to use it directly without bringing a physical calculator. Testing centers do not provide calculators nor allow candidates to bring their own, so practicing with the calculator is an essential part of exam preparation. This helps save time and reach calculation-based answers as quickly as possible.
We provide this training for free when you enroll in the ASP/CSP preparation course on our website. You will receive the same calculator software that appears in the exam, with a one-year license available exclusively to course participants, along with guided practice during the course.

Exam Results and ASP Certification Renewal
At the end of the exam, you will receive your results immediately. If you pass, it will be necessary to maintain and renew the certification if you wish to keep it, especially if you plan to later pursue the CSP exam. The certification can be renewed by earning 25 recertification points through attending relevant training courses, obtaining additional certifications, or participating in related events and activities.

Could failing to renew the ASP certification affect the CSP certification?
According to BCSP, who announced in July 2014 that the ASP became an independent certification, it was clarified that renewing the certification is optional and up to the individual, and not renewing it will not affect the validity of the CSP certification. Therefore, it is only required that the ASP certification be valid at the time of applying for the CSP exam.
An important point if you decide not to renew the certification is that the letters ASP must be removed from your name, as retaining them after expiration is a violation of the Code of Ethics, similar to other U.S. certifications.
